Sports Journalist Phiona ‘Fifi Pinky’ Namiiro was in joyous moods after receiving the 4th APL Mentorship Award at the 14th edition of the Kampala International FICTS Festival held at the Tal Cottages Hotel in Kampala.
Fifi, as commonly known, works with Star FM and Star TV under the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation.
Mentored by the late Andrew Patrick Luwandagga, Fifi said that she feels “lucky” to be recognised.
“I feel lucky, well evaluated and inspired to do more, the award is a sign that our hard work will always be recognized in one way or the other,” she stated.
“This award means anyone out there who sets their priorities right will always achieve . Putting God First, working hard and overcoming challenges always paves way for us.”
She stated that she is inspired by Serena Williams and Christiano Ronaldo before dedicating the award to son Sky Serenold and her late Mum Sarah Nanfuka.
The 2017 UPL sports Journalist of the year received the award from Chief Guest Hon Johnson Muyanja.
John Batanudde was awarded for exhibiting at the event and in recognition of his sports photography work.
