Cheptegei Off To Valencia For 10,000m World Record Attempt

Uganda’s long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei left Uganda on Sunday for Valencia.

Cheptegei will this Wednesday October 7, 2020 be in action as he bids to break another World Record.

He will be going for the world 10,000m record at the NN Valencia World Record Day at Turia Stadium in Valencia.

The 10,000m World Record has stood for the past 15 years since it was set by Kenenisa Bekele at 26:17.53 in 2005 in Brussels, Belgium.

The event in Valencia is organised by NN Running Team, Global Sports Communication and SD Correcaminos.

In Valencia, Cheptegei who bagged the 10,000m medal at the 2019 World Championship in Doha, will be banking on his recent form and will take advantage of the pace makers and and wave light technology.

He smashed Kenenisa Bekele’s 5000m world record in Monaco.

Then ten days later, on October 17, he will lead Team Uganda at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championship in Gdynia.
