Hima Cement Heathens are the 2019/20 Rugby Premiership champions after the Uganda Rugby Union decided to end the season due to Covid19 pandemic.
URU postponed all competitions on March 18 due to the pandemic but with Sports given strict guidelines to return by President Museveni, the Union called for a meeting with stakeholders to discuss the league’s fate.
“Given the strict but completely understandable conditions (including testing players every two weeks), Uganda Rugby Union Executive Committee held on September 30 resolved to end with immediate effect the 2019/20 season,” reads a statement from the Union.
Teams had played 13 of 18 games which is “at least 50%”.
Heathens led the log with 63 points and still unbeaten, followed by Betway Kobs and Black Pirates who had collected 58 and 48 points respectively.
This, is the record extending 15th title for Heathens.
There will be no promotion or relegation from the Premiership because the Championship knockout stages were not played, URU has added.
The 2020/21 seasons is tentatively set to start on January 23, 2021.
