Former Vipers coach Miguel Duarte Da Costa has been appointed as the new coach of Libyan giants Al Ittihad.

This is Da Costa’s first job since parting ways with Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in February 2020, a club he joined after leaving Uganda.

The Portuguese, former FC Porto player, joined Vipers in March 2017 and helped the club to a third place finish in his debut season.

He won the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League title the following season and helped the club to a Uganda Cup final where they lost to KCCA FC.

In that spell, he took the Venoms to Cecafa Kagame Cup Quarter final where they lost to Gor Mahia before he was sacked a week later in July 2018.

At Ittihad, he joins a country’s iconic club that was founded in July 29, 1994.

They reached the 2007 CAF Champions League semis and have won the Libyan Premier League a record 16 times.

The club sacked Belgian Coach Ivan Minnaert in September 2019 while Da Costa is the other Portuguese tactician to join Al Ittihad after Jose Vidigal (2012/13).
