JKL Lady Dolphins star Zainah Lokwameri has joined Rwandese side The Hoops.
The Gazelles forward will play for The Hoops until the end of the shortened season after the BK National League was given greenlight to resume under a tournament basis.
Lokwameri’s move comes months after FUBA (Uganda) ended all basketball activities until next year.
Speaking with The-SportsNation, Lokwameri said: “The opportunity is a good one for me and I can’t take it for granted.”
“Considering we had our hopes crashed after anticipating an exciting season, this opportunity is a chance to fight for a championship.”
Lokwameri returned a negative Covid19 test and headed into the Bubble to meet her new teammates.
She reunites with former UCU Canons point guard Rosine ‘Cissy’ Micomyiza at The Hoops.
UCU Lady Canons centre Rose Akon is another player who has moved to Rwanda when she joined Ubumwe. She was brought in to fill the void after Ugandan compatriot Sarah Ageno picked up an injury.
The New Format in Rwanda League:
The League in Rwanda was halted in March due to Covid19 pandemic. Ferwaba, in September, agreed to resume the league in October in a short format.
Consequently, four teams in the Women division were selected on performance merit to take part in the revised format.
The women teams will play against each other in the first round to determine the fixture of the semis (1 Vs 4, 2 Vs 3).
Zainah’s The Hoops face IPRC South on October 18 while Ubumwe will play APR BC.
