Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has won the 2020 World Half Marathon in Gdynia, Poland.
The teenager finished in a time of 58:49 but debuting pre race favourite and compatriot Joshua Cheptegei finished fourth, just outside the medal bracket.
Kiplimo sets the new Championship which was held by Geoffrey Kamworor who set 59:08 in Coppenhagge in 2014.
He has as well broken Uganda’s National record which was set by Geoffrey Kusuro at 59:43 on March 2015 at the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon in Italy.
Kenya’s Kibiwott settles for Silver in 58:54. Ethiopian Amedework Walelegn completed the podium finish with a third place in 59:08.
This marks a wonderful year for Kiplimo who won the 5000m at the World Athletics Continental Tour meeting in Ostrava and 3000m at the Diamond League in Rome.
He also won the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Junior champion.
In 2019, he became the World Cross Country Silver medallist at the age of 18.
