(Kitara win 7-6 on penalties)

Hoima-based Kitara beat Mbale’s Kataka in the first FUFA Big League playoffs semi played at Technical Centre Njeru on Monday.

Kitara needed penalties, winning 7-6 after normal time ended goalless in a game of few chances as players lacked fitness after going months without play.

Goalkeeper Jamil Kiyemba was the hero for Kitara after saving two penalties from Yusuf Ezama and Peter Lusimbula.

Philip Ssempira, Simon Adibo, Patrick Mugume, Musa Doka, Denis Mande, Maxwell Owagichu and Daniel Patrick Ekoyu scored for Kitara while Peter Lumoro missed his kick.

Kitara were second in the Big League Rwenzori group with 22 points, one below promoted UPDF FC, after 11 games when the league was ended due to Covid19 pandemic.

Kataka FC who finished third with 16 points in the Elgon group, will have to wait for next season’s Big League as they bid for another top flight attempt.

Kitara will wait on the winner between Ndejje University and Mbale Heroes (formerly Kiboga Young) in the Wednesday final.
