Lassina Traore: Burkina Faso Teenager Breaks Records In Eredivisie

Burkina Faso’s promising youngster Lassina Traore was in starring role as Ajax beat VV Venlo in a record breaking Dutch Eredivisie victory on Saturday.

Traore scored five goals (17′, 32′, 54′, 65′, 87′) and added a hat-trick of assists (12′, 55′, 59′) in a one-sided affair.

He has now scored the most goals in an Eredivisie match since September 2019, when Donyell Malen netted the same amount for PSV Eindhoven against Vitesse.

In addition, according to BBC, he became the first Ajax player to record five goals in an Eredivisie match since Marco van Basten in 1985 (six) and the first from the club to record three assists in a league match since Frenkie de Jong in 2017.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored twice while Dusan Tadic, Antony, Daley Blind and Lisandro Martinez one each in a game where Christian Kum was sent off for VVV-Venlo in the second half with the team already trailing 4-0.

For Ajax, its their biggest victory in Eredivisie history, and joint-second in the club’s history in all competitions.

Their biggest win was in 1984 against Differdange 14-0 in the Europa League.

Who Is Lassina Traore?

Traoré was born on January 12, 2001, in in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

The forward signed for Ajax in January last year from Ajax Capetown’s youth academy.

He has featured for Rahimo FC in Burkina Faso.

At Ajax, he signed a three-and-half-year deal until June 30, 2022.

He made his international debut for Burkina Faso on 4 May 2017, during a friendly match against Benin, according to Wikipedia.

Lassina is the cousin of Aston Villa player Bertrand Traore.

He has recently been featuring in Ajax’s Junior side Jong Ajax that plays in Eerste Divisie.

For Ugandans, Traore is expected to be part of Burkina Faso’s squad to face Cranes in AFCON 2021 Qualifiers next year on March 22 at Namboole.
