Elite League: Scorpions, Bucks Face off in Final After Day Six Washed Out

Saturday
Final: Aziz Damani Scorpions Vs Royal Varsani Bucks – 1pm

Aziz Damani Scorpions and Royal Varsani Bucks will face this Saturday afternoon at Lugogo Cricket Oval in the final of the inaugural Elite T20 League.

Persistent rain on Friday meant no play was possible on Day six with the two scheduled games abandoned and points shared respectively.

After a frustrating morning, the first game between Mamba Challengers and Scorpions was abandoned due to the showers before the other afternoon encounter suffered the same fate due to a wet surface after inspections.

The abandonment of the matches came as a huge blow for Challengers who were determined to pip Bucks for a place in the final on the last day.

With the other place in the final earlier booked by Scorpions, Mamba who had recorded double wins on day five, needed a big win over Scorpions and pray that Scorpions beat Bucks in the afternoon game. With all wishes later washed out.

This, leaves Scorpions on top with 10 points, followed by Varsani Bucks with 8 while Mamba finishes bottom of the three-team log with six points.

In the Saturday final, Scorpions will hope that Wasim Butt comes to the party as he has been in this tournament throughout. He is leading the batting stats with 212 runs, averaging 53, and totaling 13 sixes and 14 boundaries.

With Simon Ssesazi firing on all cylinders with the bat, the Royal Varsani Bucks’ main strength lies with their attack thanks to Siraje Nsubuga and Emmanuel Isaneez who have picked nine wickets each in this tourney.

The championship which started on Sunday, has been played on a T20 basis with two games played per day for six days.

Uganda Cricket Association will offer the overall winner with Sh3m and the team will also take home 15 mobile phones courtesy of Hisense.

With Covid19 restrictions, like it was in the group games, no fans will be allowed at Lugogo but the much anticipated final will be streamed live on UCA socials.

Please rain go away, Bucks and Scorpions want to play.
