Surprise Exclusions As Cricket Cranes Squad Named

The squad of 21 players for the upcoming tour to Qatar in December has been named by the Uganda Cricket Association.

The Selectors have made surprise omissions, however.

Experienced Left-arm medium-fast bowler Charles Waiswa who has been an integral part of the Cranes setup in recent past, has been dropped.

There is no place for on-form Batsman Ivan Thawithemwira and youngster Jonathan Kizza who impressed at the recently concluded Elite T20 League.

Thawithemwira scored 168 runs for The Mamba Challengers, only bettered by Wasim Butt (212) and Simon Ssesazi (169) of Aziz Damani Scorpions and Royal Varsani Bucks respectively.

Jonathan on the other hand, was named the tourney’s best fielder, picking five wickets from as many innings.

The team will start preparations this Monday, November 9 at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

New Cricket Cranes coach Lawrence Mahatlane is still in South Africa, hence the team will be under the stewardship of interim coach Davis Turinawe and assistant coach Jackson Ogwang.

In Qatar, Uganda will face the hosts, Malaysia and Nepal in a T20 international tour, with actual dates yet to be revealed.

Training Squad – Arnold Otwani, Saud Islam, Ronak Patel, Dinesh Nakrani, Roger Mukasa, Riazat Ali Sha, Frank Nsubuga, Brian Masaba, Frank Akankwasa, Kenneth Waiswa, Fred Achelam, Deus Muhumuza, Richard Agamire, Henry Ssenyondo, Zephania Arinaitwe, David Wabwire, Simon Ssesazi, Siraje Nsubuga, Steven Wabwose, Shazad Kamal, Trevor Bukenya
