FUFA has revealed the reason why Busoga United FC are yet to receive their license for the forthcoming Uganda Premier League season.
The UPL Secretariat recently left out Busoga United and Kitara FC from the league fixture draft having not fulfilled the mandatory licensing Requirements.
Ahead of kickoff on December 3, 2020, the two clubs were given until Monday (yesterday) to hand in the missing requirements, and it remains to be seen if the two sides met the deadline.
FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of Football, Decolas Kizza, has said that its the discrepancies in Busoga United FC’s ownership structures which has delayed the club.
“There were mismatches in the documents we have at FUFA and those from the Busoga Kingdom in regards to owns the club,” Kizza told Martin Kaddu on Sanyuka TV on Tuesday.
“We need the rightful owner of the club to come out and clarify, and until that is done, they will not appear on the UPL Fixture next season.”
Kizza also revealed that Kitara FC are yet to confirm a coach and player contracts as required by the licensing committee.
If the clubs fail to meet the requirements, they will play in the third tier (FUFA Regional League), not Big League!
Who Owns Busoga United?
Per the 2019/20 licensing documents, the majority shareholder at Busoga United FC is Dinah H.T Nyago with 51% shares.
Other shareholders at the club include Jinja SS (board) with 35% while Busoga Kindom, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Fredrick Gume Ngobi, Godfrey Bwire Osodo, Daniel Oketch, Robert Adotu and Samuel Mugabi have 2% each.
However, in June this year, Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Katuukiro) Dr Joseph Muvawala punched holes in the matters of Busoga club ownership,
Muvawala stated that he was not even aware of the 2% shares the kingdown had in the club, before confirming the withdrawal of Busoga and Kyabazinga from use as name and club patron respectively.
Before the league starts, all the participating teams must have at least submit in minimum requirements for them to qualify.
The requirements were put in various criteria which include administrative (Club Ownership) as FUFA moves to ensure and enforce transparency in club management.
