Silverbacks Suffer Injury Blow Ahead of Egypt Opener

Friday, November 27:

Uganda senior men national team, the Silverbacks, have suffered a major setback as the side prepares for the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers.

News coming out of the Silverbacks camp have it that Emmanuel Mugenga has torn an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in training.

The setback comes as the side set to face Egypt tonight in Alexandria.

Mugenga, the French based star, will as well miss the Morocco and Cape Verde games on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Joseph Ikong is also ruled out of the opener.

This leaves 10 players available including Titus Lual (UCU Canons) and Ishmail Wainwright (USA) who will be doning the national jersey for the first time.

FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi has also joined camp – He had remained in Uganda to wait for the Government funding.

Silverbacks will seek to finish inside the top three in Group E after two windows to qualify for the Afrobasket Finals next year in Kigali Arena, Rwanda.

The second window will be played in February 19-21 2021 at a yet to be confirmed venue.
