I Want To Be Part Of Express Success – Murushid Juuko

Express FC defender Murushid Juuko says that he wants to be part of the “imminent” success at Wankulukuku.

The defender made a shock return to the Uganda Premier League when he signed for the Red Eagles ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Murushid who has represented Uganda at the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tourneys, had last played in UPL in 2014 with the defunct Victoria University FC.

The former Bunamwaya defender later joined Simba SC in Tanzania before a barren spell in Morocco with Wydad Casablanca.

“I noticed that Express is targeting something bigger, they added a good coach (Wasswa Bbosa) and I therefore had to join as well to be part of that success,” Murushid said on Friday.

“We want to win the league this season.”

He made his Express debut in a one-all draw against Onduparaka, and says that he has been surprised by the level of competition amongst players in the league.

Murushid explained: “It had been a while since I last featured in UPL, but a lot has changed. The quality of players and competition has greatly improved.

“There are good players in this league who are supposed to be playing in the major leagues abroad. Some of us now have to work harder to reach that level again.”

Murushid will be the star attraction as the Red Eagles face Bright Stars this Saturday, in the club’s first home game of the 2020/21 season.

Against Onduparaka, he saw his defensive partner and club captain Enock ‘Lucio’ Walusimbi sent off for a deliberate hand ball.

“It was not a good game for us but at least we managed to get a point away. We made so many mistakes but with the help of our coaches, we have worked on them.

“It was our first game, we are many new players so we need some little time to gel. Facing Bright Stars is another big challenge but we are ready for them and we expect a win with a clean-sheet.

“Our captain is out, but there are many good replacements in camp and am sure the gap will not be felt.”
