Preview – URA FC in hunt for first win

URA FC are one of the title contenders for this season’s title. But if their start is to go by, their wait for the fifth title since 2011 will continue.

Just a point off Mbarara can be excused but the same cannot be said of their dismal show against Bright Stars FC.

Sam Ssimbwa will demand much from his main target man Steven Mukwala but Saidi Kyeyune, Joachim Ojera and Michael Birungi have to be at their best to break a resolute Villa defence.

“We have been unlucky not to win a game yet but we won’t keep thinking about it, we are facing a team in good form and our aim is to give 100% in the game so we can win,” Ssimbwa is quoted by the club website.

“The team has been defending well but my role as a manager is to prepare our offence to be equally as good. Once this is done, we shall win more games.”

Goffin Oyirwoth (middle) has rejuvenated himself at SC Villa.

The Jogoos on the other hand, opened with a 2-2 away draw against BUL before beating Mbarara to get their season up and running.

Isaac Ogwang, christened as Falcao by close pals, scored a double and will be hoping to make another statement in Luwero.

The Stats:

League Meetings:

Last season, URA FC beat Villa 2-0 at Ndejje University – Daniel Isiagi and Michael Birungi scored for the Tax Collectors.

The first round encounter, which was played in Luzira, saw both sides share spoils – Ambrose Kirya equalised from the spot after Brian Majwega had put URA in the lead from the penalty as well.

This will be the 21st meeting since 2010: URA FC takes the lion’s share with seven wins, while Villa has four wins, and nine draws.
