Mbarara City staged a comeback to deny Express maximum points in a league game played on Wednesday at Kakyeka Stadium.
The Ankole Lions trailed at halftime courtesy of Godfrey Lwesibawa’s strike but Souleymane Bamba later leveled matters as both sides settled for a point.
Lwesibawa’s free-kick took an awkward slight bounce to elude Mohammed Ssekeba in goal as Express led in the 23rd minute.
The hosts improved in the second half and their efforts were paid when centre back Bamba rose high to head in from a corner in the 77th minute past Eric Kambale who was placed at the near post.
Express will rue their missed opportunities in the first stanza, notably Lwesibawa who sent his loop over the bar with a keeper to beat after he was put through by Frank Kalanda.
George Ssenkaaba weakily headed direct at the keeper as Express looked the better side in the opening minutes.
Coach Bbosa showed a lot of respect for Mbarara in the second stanza as his side sat deep in their own half to invite Mbarara.
He later brought on defenders Richard Bbosa, Enock Ssebagala and Sadiq Ssekyembe for Daniel Shabena, Frank Kalanda and Godfrey Lwesibawa in that order.
Bashir Mutanda was in thick of things but failed to find his first goal for the club – He sent his free kick into the wall earlier in the first half, and powered his best chance over the bar after receiving from Solomon Okwalinga.
This is the second draw for Ankole Lions at home after falling twice on the road against SC Villa and KCCA.
For the Red Eagles, its their second away draw, for a side that beat Bright Stars at Wankulukuku.
