Uganda Cranes and Express FC defender Murushid Juuko is set to join South African side Maritzburg United FC.
Maritzburg United is a South African football club based in the city of Pietermaritzburg that currently plays in the Premier Soccer League.
Juuko has withdrawn from the CHAN team that is leaving on Monday to Cameroon.
“He will fly out to South Africa for trials at Martizburg United next week,” Express CEO Isaac Mwesigwa said, as quoted by Kawowo.
Juuko joined Express FC at the start of the 2020/21 season after ending his contract with Botola Pro side Wydad Casablanca.
If the deal to Maritzburg comes through, he will seek to improve the team’s defence that has seen the side who are rooted at the bottom with just two points, concede 14 goals from eight games.
He will bank on his past experience that helped him excel at Bunamwaya (now Vipers), defunct Victoria University FC and Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Juuko has represented Uganda Cranes at two AFCON finals – 2017 (Gabon) and 2019 (Egypt).
He will have joined other Ugandan players in PSL like Denis Onyango, Isma Watenga and Moses Waiswa.
