Onyango Lands Jamal, Ochaya As CAF Champions League Draw Held

Uganda Cranes goalkeepers Denis Onyango and Salim Jamal together with left back Joseph Ochaya will face off in this season’s CAF Champions League.

The draw for the group stages has been held on Friday at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns have been pitted in Group B alongside Ochaya’s TP Mazembe and Jamal’s Al Hilal of Sudan.

CR Belouizdad of Algeria is the other club pitted in Group B.

It should be noted that Al Hilal eliminated Uganda Premier League side SC Vipers.

Mazembe, who are five time winners, have not won the Champions League since 2015 but will fancy their chances this time round.

Al Hilal are 1987 and 1992 beaten finalists.

Joseph Ochaya

Sundowns beat Zamalek in 2016 to lift their only Champions League title.

Nine-time winners Al Ahly are in Group A alongside AS Vita, Simba and El Merreikh.

The matchday one for the Groups will kick off on February 12, 2021.

Group A – Al Ahly (Egypt), AS Vita (DR Congo), Simba (Tanzania), El Merreikh (Sudan)

Group B – Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), El Hilal (Sudan)

Group C – Wydad (Morocco), Horoya (Guinea), Atletico Petroleos (Angola), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa)

Group D – ES Tunis (Tunisia), Zamalek (Egypt), MC Alger (Algeria), Teungueth (Senegal)
