Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner John Musinguzi has commended the club (URA FC) for the work done in raising the flag of the authority.
Musinguzi was appointed the new Commissioner General after President Museveni dropped Doris Akol in March last year.
Musinguzi visited the team on Friday at the training ground in Gayaza at Hormisdarlen School.
URA FC have won the league four times, three Uganda Cups and are two time CECAFA cup runners up.
“I have heard about this winning team for so many years and its a team which brings us joy and glory as an organization,” Musinguzi stated.
“I am aware that since the formation of the club, you have won so many trophies both here at home and abroad and I know you have proved carriers for many of our football players in this country and indeed as mentioned by the CEO, you are the biggest contributors to our national team the Uganda Cranes, thank you so much for that noble job.
“I know you have collaborated with a number of stakeholders to promote the most cherished soccer game, despite being occupied with winning trophies you have still not forgotten to take every opportunity to inspire the country to pay taxes, so thank you so much.”
Musinguzi lauded the club for being great ambassadors of Uganda Revenue Authority and appreciated the club for using the game to disseminate tax messages and cultivating partnership with Schools and other clubs to create tax awareness.
He added: “Nelson Mandelasaid ‘Sports has the power to change the world’ so I truly share this belief that Sports has a vivid transformative and unifying power with potential to influencing tax paying culture and you have demonstrated this so far, and thank you very much for that.”
He also appreciated the director of Hormisdarlen schools for offering URA FC a home for training and preparing to win the trophies.
He stated that the Authority will continue supporting the club even during these tough Covid19 times.
Musinguzi added: “We welcome ideas for development of a sustainable football program, the need for the club to have a permanent home and the issues that have raised ably by the board, so I assure you that we will do everything we can with in our means to achieve these dream.”
“There is a need to have a home of our own and I believe there are many supporters that we can knock on the door and they support us in this great noble thing.
“But i also want to appreciate the fact that I have found you a very organized structured team and that’s is a critical block in building success because we cannot move this game to another level when we are not organized and since now we have a patron who loves football, so am very keen in supporting football especially homegrown football but particular in a club where I happen to be a patron, so let us take this game to another level, let us grow those players but also have an organized way of selling them to those who want to take finished products so that we earn because football is not just game but a game which has the capacity to create wealth and transform lives, but most importantly its role in uniting people.”
“So, URA as a first born institution of this nation, the institution that has pioneered and started very many great successful initiatives also take the first born position in sports Arena, so am praying that this year you bring back the Uganda Premier League.”
Musinguzi notably launched the season tickets that will see holders watch all home games for URA FC free of charge.
The tickets include Platinum which goes for Sh400,000 and Silver at Sh150,000.
Besides watching games for free, the ticket holders receive other privileges that include getting regular updates about the club.
With no fans allowed to attend games due to Covid19, FUFA gives clubs permission to allow season ticket holders access stadiums.
URA FC are seated in second place with 11 points after five games with the league set to return next month after CHAN in Cameroon.
