Anukani, Ojera start as McKinstry names XI to face Rwanda

KCCA FC playmaker Bright Anukani has been named among the starters for Uganda against Rwanda in today’s CHAN group C second fixture.

The Cranes and Rwanda both open their Group accounts on Monday night at the Stade Reunification in Doula.

Anukani is included in a three-man midfield alongside URA FC’s Shafik Kagimu and Karim Watambala of Vipers SC.

Uganda Premier League top scorer Brian Aheebwa has been left out of the starting line up with the front trio being Joakim Ojera, Vianni Ssekajiggo and Milton Karisa.

KCCA FC captain Charles Lukwago starts in goal while Paul Willa, Mustafa Mujuzi, Paul Mbowa and Aziz Kayondo complete the back four which has no spot for team captain-Halid Lwaliwa.

Uganda will be hoping to bank on recent Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament success where they finished top of the pile ahead of hosts-Cameroon, Niger and Zambia.

The Amavubi Stars on the other hand played a two-match friendly with Congo, and needed to recover from two goals down to secure a draw in the first game thanks to Martin Fabrice Twizeyimana and Justin Mico goals.

Uganda will be making their fifth straight appearance at the Tourney but are yet to go past the group stages.

Rwanda are at CHAN for the fourth time, and made the Quarter final at their home edition in 2016 where they were eliminated by DR Congo 2-1 (AET).

To qualify for CHAN 2020, Uganda eliminated Somalia and Burundi, beating the latter on a 6-0 aggregate.

Rwanda eliminated Ethiopia 2-1 on aggregate in September 2019 having won the first leg 1-0 in Mekelle.

Rwanda last triumphed over Uganda Cranes 1-0 in 2007 Cecafa Cup.
