CHAN 2020: Micho’s Zambia, Tanzania Square Off

CHAN 2020 – Tuesday, 19-02-2021
Limbe Stadium, Limbe
-Zambia vs Tanzania @7pm
-Guinea vs Namibia @10pm

The CHAN 2020 tournament will continue on Tuesday with two games in group D at the Limbe Stadium in Limbe.

The opening contest pits Zambia against Tanzania with both sides hoping for a good start.

Zambia have been underachievers of sorts – Finished third in the first edition (2009, Ivory Coast) and have fallen at quarters twice since then.

Under the guidance of former Uganda Cranes tactician, Zambia is hoping for better luck this time round.

However, they did not have the best of preparations as they won only one of their three pre-CHAN tournament fixtures.

After surrendering three leads and drawing 3-3 against Niger, Zambia lost 2-0 to Uganda before beating Cameroon in their final game.

Pedigree is on their side against the Taifa Stars but Micho will know they can not take the opposition lightly.

For Tanzania, they will be making just their second appearance at the finals.

Their first was in Ivory Coast 2009 where they failed to progress past the group stages despite collecting a respectable four points from three games.

Tanzania played only one build up game ahead of the tournament, drawing 1-1 with big-shots DR Congo.

In the other group D encounter, West Africans-Guinea will take on Namibia.

Guinea who eliminated Senegal at the qualifiers are attempting to replicate the heroics of five years ago when they reached the semi finals.

In what was their first appearance at the finals, the West Africans stunned the continent as they breezed through their group, beat Zambia in the last 8 before losing to eventual champions DR Congo at the semis.

It will take a miracle-of-sort for them to repeat such a display but a win against Namibia who are featuring in only their second CHAN tournament may just about work as the motivation required.

Namibia should also not be taken lightly after impressing and reaching the last eight in Morocco 2018.

Monday’s results

-Morocco 1-0 Togo
-Rwanda 0-0 Uganda

Wednesday’s fixtures

-Cameroon vs Mali @7pm
-Burkina Faso vs Zimbabwe @10pm
