Uganda head coach Morley Byekwaso says they have put more emphasis on the fitness of players as Uganda intensifies training ahead of the AFCON U20 Championship.
The U20 team is training at MTN Stadium, Lugogo.
The tourney will be held in Mauritania from February 14 to March 4, 2021.
“We have so far prepared for three days and we have concentrated more on the fitness levels because players have been down for a while due to the pandemic and inactive leagues,” Byekwaso said on Sunday.
“We needed to insert something inside the players fitness wise that’s is why we have concetrated on it for three days.”
The coach also says they will reduce on the number of players in the coming days.
“We shall reduce the number probably on Monday because players are many, we need to have 30 players here until the deadline.”
He also revealed that the team will have a friendly game to boost the players.
The friendly game will be played on Wednesday with KCCA before naming a final squad of 25 players who will travel to Mauritania.
Uganda Hippos will learn their fate at the forthcoming Under-20 AFCON on Monday.
The tournament is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players under the age of 20.
