From Enyeama To Salah – Africa’s Team Of The Past Decade Named

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has named the best performing African footballers of the past decade.

The association which is tasked with chronicling of the history and records in football has come up with 11 players who they suggest make up the best team from 2011 to 2020 on the African continent.

The team comprises of one Nigerian, two Egyptians, two Ivorians, two Senegalese and a player each from Morocco, Ghana, Algeria and Gabon.

The team is dominated by players who made their mark in the English Premier League, some of whom were named African players of the year at some point.

Surprisingly, their is no spot for Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba who won the 2013 Champions League trophy for the Blues.

Legendary Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama who lifted the 2013 AFCON title, has been handed the role of custodian.

In defence, Egypt’s Ahmed Fathy slots in at right-back while Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is accommodated at the opposite flank.

Morocco’s Mehdi Benatia and Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly forge the centre-back pairing.

The IFFHS has come up with a three-man midfield comprising of Yaya Toure, Andre Ayew and Algeria’s Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

The Liverpool pair of Sadio Mane and Muhamed Salah are alongside Arsenal captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as the trio upfront.
