The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has released the final Silverbacks squad for the upcoming FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers.
This will be the second window of qualifiers and will take place between February 18-21 in Tunisia.
A squad of 13 players was named on February 01 through a press statement released to the media.
It comprises of eight home based and five foreign players, taking the tally to 13.
Four players from the team of locally based players that have been training at Africa Bible University, have been dropped.
They are Stanley Mugerwa (Warriors), Innocent Ochera (JKL Dolphins), Ivan Muwhezi (City Oilers) and Peter Obleng (KIU Titans).
Only Mugerwa, of the four dropped, was part of the team that featured in the first window in Alexandria, Egypt.
Fan favourites Fayed Baale and Ceasar Kizito have made the final squad.
There is a new face in Arthur Kaluma who indirectly replaces Emmanuel Mugenga who got injured ahead of the first window.
The team is expected to depart the country on February 04 for Tunisia where they will hold a training camp, first.
They have been undergoing intensive preparation for the past six weeks and will be tasked with ensuring Uganda seals its spot at this year’s championships which will be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
After the first round, Uganda sits in second on the standings in group E which also features leaders Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde.
Uganda beat both Cape Verde and Morocco but lost to host Egypt in a game where they fell short in the fourth quarter.
They now need just One victory in Tunisia to seal a spot at the finals in Rwanda.
