We Are Building A Team For The Future – Byekwaso

Uganda Hippos head coach Morely Byekwaso has said is building a team for the future not just to win trophies.

Byekwaso speaking before Hippos departure to Tanzania said that they also want to outcompete West and North African teams that have for long given Uganda difficulties at all levels.

Byekwaso stated:

“First of all we want to build this team for the future because Cranes, U-23 and this very U-20 will be leaving soon and with my technical team we want to build this team for a long run in the future and the country will be proud of them.”

“When you don’t give these players a strong foundation, they won’t be able to go for bigger competitions so we want to weigh our selves after playing the likes of Cameroon.”

The Hippos, preparing for their debut at AFCON U20 Championship, have left to Tanzania on Monday for a Mini Tournament.

They will face Tanzania and Namibia.

“I want us to know our pattern and know when to use the ball so we can harm our opponents and see how we can contain pressure,” he said about the importance of the mini tournament.

“We finally want to see if these players are ready to take us where we want to be with the likes of Morocco, Cameroon, Tunisia because they have given us hard times.”

After playing in the pre- AFCON Mini tournament HIPPOS will travel to Mauritania for the AFCON U-20.

The Uganda Hippos are placed in Group A with hosts Mauritania, Cameroon and Mozambique.
