Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC have received a sponsorship package from Betting company AbaBet Uganda.
AbaBet will be the leading sponsor for the Caterpillars for the next three years.
The Betting name has taken over the front shirt and the naming rights for Greenlight Stadium in Arua.
The deal, revealed in a two-hour function at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, is worth Sh625m.
“We are very honoured and excited to have AbaBet on board as the lead sponsor, its between two years since we last had a sponsor in-front of our shirts, it means everything to us, one of the problems clubs especially at grassroots face is financial challenges,” Onduparaka Marketing Officer Mercy Munduru stated.
“This is important to us because of will motivate our finances, its motivation to players and the management.
“It will help us sustain the club in the top flight. It will also accelerate our performance. We have done quiet well so far but now there is a huge task for us to ensure that we start off on a high note and maintain the performance amongst the competitive teams in the league this season in order to have value for the sponsors who have come on board this season.”
The deal, is a “dream come true” for Onduparaka given their recent financial challenges.
The deal comes two days after the club renewed their partnership with communication company MTN Uganda and also unveiled the new kits for the 2020/21 season.
AbaBet Uganda head of Marketing Prince Kangume stated: “We have been around here for over six years, we have sponsored schools, and many sporting activities.
“We want to lift Onduparaka, they have a huge fan base, they have changed the face of football in the country since joining top flight.
“We came to Onduparaka because their vision resonates with ours and we want to grow together and widen our wings.”
Beside the financial bit, AbaBet will help the club in Capacity Building.
The Caterpillars will host Busoga United at the AbaBet Green Light Stadium in Arua in their upcoming UPL fixture on Friday, February 12.
Their next two fixtures will see them travel away to UPDF FC before hosting Kyetume FC.
They are currently seventh on the log with eight points after five games.
