Club World Cup: Al Ahly Oust Al-Duhail To Set Up Bayern Semi

Egyptian giants Al Ahly beat Qatari side Al-Duhail to book a place in the semifinal at the ongoing 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.

Hussein Elshahat scored the only goal of the game, at the half hour mark, thanks to an assist from Walter Bwalya.

Al Ahly will now face German side Bayern Munich at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Monday in the semifinal.

In the other encounter, Frenchman Andre-Pierre Gignac scored as a brace as Mexican outfits UANL Tigres came from a goal down to edge Ulsan Hyundai from South Korea.

The South Korean side had gone in-front in the 24th minute courtesy of Kim Keehee’s goal.

This, is a FIFA-organised international club football tournament between the winners of the six continental confederations, as well as the host nation’s league champions.

The tournament is being hosted by Qatar.

Al Ahly are African representatives and qualified to this edition after beating Zamalek in CAF Champions League final last year in November. Then, Mohamed Magdy scored an 88th-minute winner to settle an all Egyptian final after Zamalek’s Shikabala had canceled Amr El Soleya’s goal.

Al Ahly has not been at this stage for the past seven years.

The win against Al Duhail, means that the Egyptian side is unbeaten in 32 games in all competitions.

Al-Duhail, formerly Lekhwiya SC, received a bye to this stage after Auckland City (Oceania) withdrew from the tourney.
