Anukani speaks out on CHAN, testing positive for COVID-19

Bright Anukani is one of the most highly rated players in the Uganda Premier League (UPL).

Currently on loan at KCCA FC, the Proline FC midfielder has enjoyed relatively steady progress in his career, so far.

From being named the Most Valuable player in the Big League to earning his first call-up to the Uganda Cranes, Anukani has recently featured in the just concluded CHAN 2020 tournament in Cameroon.

While speaking on KCCA FC TV which airs every Sunday on Sanyuka TV, the 21-year old said that he earned the trust of the coaches, thus playing all the Cranes games in Cameroon.

Anukani started in all the three group games from which Uganda earned just a single point in the group after drawing with Rwanda and losing to both Togo and eventual winners Morocco.

“First of all, the coach has to trust the player. He started.

“The coaches trusted me to start all the games.

“I prayed to God that I can be part of the starting team and he answered my prayer.”

Anukani had a disappointing tournament as he consistently failed to exert his will on proceedings.

However, he is a player whose abilities can never be doubted and it is no surprise as to why he was handed three starting roles in the team.

He has now returned to his club side KCCA FC who are attempting to win this year’s Uganda Premier League title.

Before the CHAN break, Anukani featured in just two games for KCCA in the league because of COVID-19.

Speaking about the situation, he had this to say;

“I didn’t play the first matches since I had tested positive for Covid-19.

“My close friends, family and doctors gave me courage that i could overcome the disease and that is why I came back stronger.

“I just came in as a substitute against URA FC where we lost 2-1 and I played against As Kigali in Kitende.”

The Proline academy Graduate says he grew up admiring Muzamir Mutyaba and Sadam Juma while still in school at Luzira SS.

Anukani also dreams of playing professional football abroad.

“My dream is to play professional football in Barcelona, of Spain.” He said proudly.

Anukani is expected to return to action on Friday, February 12, when KCCA FC visits BUL FC in Njeru.
