Uganda Muslim Association (UMA) through their umbrella Islamic Hope Association (IHA) have recognized some sports personalities who have exhibited high levels of performance .
Among those that have being recognized is Uganda Girls U17 national team head coach Ayub khalifan.
Ayub is also head coach of Kawempe Ladies team who play in the FUFA Women Super league.
His effort will be remembered for helping Kawempe win four elite league trophies in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
In 2019, he was appointed as the head coach of the Uganda Under 17 girls team and was given a big task to push them to another level.
He has gone some way to achieving that as he guided the girls to aggregate victories of Ethiopia and Tanzania in the World Cup qualifiers.
His next task will be against Cameroon in the final round of qualification.
Khalifan also went on to lift the under 17 COSAFA and CECAFA trophies in 2019 which were staged in Uganda and Mauritius respectively.
While handing over the award, the chairman of Islamic Hope Association Sheikh Hassan Waswa said that Moslem best performers should be appreciated for their excellence.
“We came out to appreciate different Muslim personalities in different categories who have excelled above the others. Wasswa noted.
“In Islam, we say that if someone does good to you or the society, it is better for that person to be appreciated and that is why we came out to these sporting individuals.
“We thank them for raising the national flag high especially those on the different national teams and we continue to pray to the almighty Allah to bless them with more excellence.”
Khalifan while receiving his award, he expressed his appreciation to the association.
“Am very honoured to be part of the awards and having received an award of the outstanding coach in women football.
“Am grateful to the organization that has come up with the ideal of having such awards because it is always good to be appreciated.
“Lastly thankful to Uganda Muslim Association that actually recognizes our efforts and pray that they continue with the good spirit.”
The other members that were awarded include the current FUFA president Mr Moses Magogo, URA FC captain Shafic Kagimu and UCU Lady Cardinals player Hasifa Nassuna.
