Wakiso Giants registered their first victory in the league this season thanks to a 1-0 victory over Mbarara City on Friday.

The purple sharks had drawn all their opening fixtures in the league coming into match-day six.

January transfer signing, Kipson Atuheire scored the only goal of the game in a closely contested fixture at Kakyeka.

The game started on a low note in the first minutes with less attacking, but Mbarara City had more of the possession.

In the 18th minute, the Ankole Lions could have scores their first of the game, but Wakiso custodian Samson Kirya saved a Bebe Swalik effort to a corner.

In the 22nd, Viane Ssekajugo’s effort from a free kick went direct into the arms of Muhammed Ssekeba to ensure the game remain goalless.

Joshua Lubwama missed from a free kick after Sekajugo was fouled at the edge of the box.

At the start of the second half, Solomon Okwalinga’s effort went off the post, after doing some donkey work in the midfield.

Wakiso then thought they had taken the lead eight minutes into the second half but Ssekajugo’s goal was disallowed after the referee called for a handball as the former Onduparaka forward controlled the ball.

The stage was now set for Atuhaire to mark his debut with a goal as he dunked the ball over Muhammad Ssekeba in the Mbarara goal following a threaded through ball by Owen Kasule.

With eight minutes to play, Mbarara were handed a glorious opportunity to level matters. Joshua Lubwama was judged to have handled in the area but Ssemugabi’s effort from the penalty mark brushed of the post and out for just a goal kick.

The result sees Wakiso remain unbeaten and now move onto eight points from six games played .

On the other hand, Mbarara remain on three points after drawing three and losing as many in their opening six encounters.

Wakiso giants will be face SC Villa at home on Wednesday in their next fixture while Mbarara are away to Kitara the day before.
