Tuesday February 16th
Kitara FC 0-1 Mbarara City FC
Solomon Okwalinga scored the only goal against Kitara FC to guide Mbarara city to their first league win of the season.
Okwalinga scored just five minutes into the game after collecting from Jude Semugabi.
The Ankole lions had not collected any win in their six opening games having drawn three games and lost as many.
Mbarara City were also boosted by the return of head coach Brian Ssenyondo who had been away on national duty with the Uganda U17 team.
Mbarara city started with pressing high up the pitch and the move paid off instantly.
Ssemugabi played Okwalinga through on goal and the midfielder obliged as he poked the ball into the back of the net.
A few minutes later, Semugabi could have doubled the host’s lead for the but his effort from just inside the box, went just wide.
Ivorian striker Chato Bamba made his debut coming on for goal Okwalinga who was forced off after sustaining an injury.
The best chance for Kitara came in the 18th minute, when Edson Agondeze shot wide.
Just after the break, Agondeze failed to hit the target once again after the visitors caught Mbarara on the counter.
Kitara looked the more organized side in the second half but could not curb out an opportunity to level matters.
Daniel Ekoyu saw an effort rattle the post before Agondeze shot straight at Muhammad Ssekeba.
The win sees Mbarara City now move to 6 points but remain in 13th spot on the log.
Kitara remain bottom of the pile with just a single point from 7 games.
In their next fixtures, Mbarara will be at home to Busoga United on Friday while Kitara faces SC Villa on the same day.
