Time For Police To Get Out Of The Shadow Of The Big Boys – Mubiru

Police have been arguably the most outstanding side in the Uganda Premier League.

From fighting to fend off relegation and eventually finishing 13th, the Cops have been on hell of a run since this season started and sit top of the log.

On Tuesday, they beat up on BUL FC 2-0, their 5th victory of the season, one that took them to 16 points, one ahead of Vipers SC.

It was not an easy game as the Cops were forced to dig deep and score twice in the second period to secure the victory.

Speaking after the game, Mubiru Police FC head coach thanked his players for the patience exhibited on the day.

“Our opponents were organized on the day. Mubiru started.

“We failed to use the wings proper until we brought on Sseninde (Duncan) and Wasswa (Herman) in the second half who enabled us to stretch BUL and that is how we got going.

“My players we patient and waited for the right moment to pounce.”

Police have taken over 14 years without winning the Uganda Premier League.

Since then, the league has been dominated by Vipers SC and KCCA FC, two of the five giants (including Express FC, SC Villa and URA FC), Mubiru claims Police need to move out of their shadow.

“For a while now, we have seen the other big clubs dominate and it is high time we also stepped out of their shadow.:

Police have always played beautiful football which is highlighted with scoring goals.

However, they always conceded many at the other end but things seem to be changing of late as they have the best defensive record in the league.

Asked about what has changed, this is what Mubiru said.

“We had to work on our defence and ensure the number of goals we concede dropped.

“Our defenders have been good but so have been the Keepers.”

Despite sitting top of the pile, Mubiru insists Police is not chasing the title this season

“We are not thinking about winning the trophy now.

“All that matters is our next game against Vipers, our capability can’t go beyond 7months but think about three days ahead when we play Vipers .”

The Cop will be aiming at stretching the gap at top when they play Vipers on Friday
