Rwanda’s AS Kigali were on Saturday ousted from the CAF Confederation Cup at the playoff round following a 1-1 draw with CS Sfaxien.

AS Kigali had eliminated KCCA FC 3-3 on away goals rule at the first round to reach this stage.

The side were awarded a 2-0 win after KCCA had failed to raise a required number of players for the first leg. KCCA won the return leg 3-1 in Kampala but bundled out on away goals rule.

Against Sfaxien, Kigali dug themselves a deep pit when they lost 4-1 at Stade Taieb Mhiri on February 13 in Tunis.

CS Sfaxien got the goals through Firas Chaouat, Ahmed Ammar and Mohamed Soula who scored a brace.

Needing a 3-0 win to progress to the groups, Kigali scored at the stroke of halftime through Abubaker Lawal but the visitors got an equaliser at the hour mark thanks to a goal from Firas Chaouat.

CS Sfaxien joins RS Berkene at the group stage of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.

RS Berkane advanced directly to the group stage as the winners of the first round with the best CAF 5-Year Ranking following Gazelle withdrawal from the competition after being transferred from the Champions League.
