Vipers Petition FUFA Over ‘Unethical’ Conduct Of Kasingye

Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers SC have written a request to FUFA over the ‘unethical and unsporting’ conduct of Police FC chairman AIGP Asan Kasingye.

The club has protested the ‘unprofessional and unbecoming conduct’ of Kasingye following the controversial incidents in a league game between the two sides at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

On February 19, 2021, Kasingye stormed the touchline after his goalkeeper Derrick Ochan was issued a straight red card over infringement.

The Police chairman was animated and later revealed his anguish on Twitter, putting the blame to Vipers who he said bribed the referees.

“That the conduct of the said official was not only in contravention of the St. Mary’s Stadium code of conduct but it was unethical and brought the game of football in disrepute and bad light as all his unsporting and ill mannerisms were caught live on television as the game was being broadcast live,” Vipers CEO Simon Njuba is quoted in the petition.

Njuba says that Kasingye’s comments on Twitter were “very reckless, wild, false and unsubstantiated allegations against Vipers SC and the match officials of the day accusing the same of corruption, theft, match fixing among other heinous crimes.”

“That we contest that such conduct of the said Police FC Chairman as an official of a member of FUFA is in breach of his obligations under the FUFA Code of Conduct and other relevant football laws and regulations and has occasioned embarrassment, contempt and ridicule not only to the image of Vipers SC but the whole football fraternity and administration in Uganda as the tweets label and portray us jointly and severally as corrupt.

“That we as Vipers SC reserve the option to pursue other legal avenues for remedies in respect to injury that the said official’s misconduct has occasioned to our brand and image but as law abiding members of the football family, we trust that there are sufficient internal mechanisms within the football legal regime to bring such errant members to order and account.”
