The Uganda Premier League (UPL) Secretariat has announced that Derrick Ochan’s red card against Vipers SC has been revoked.
The Police FC goalkeeper was sent off in controversial circumstances in the 3-2 loss to the Venoms on February 19 after he was judged to have handled the ball outside his area in the 40th minute.
However, video replays-after the game, showed that the assistant referee had made a mistake as the former Venom had clearly touched the ball before it exited the penalty box.
This prompted Police to appeal the decision which has been overturned by the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel.
“The UPL Secretariat is in receipt of a decision from the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel which reviewed the red card shown to Police FC player (Ochan Derrick) during M#57 Vipers
SC Vs Police FC played on 19th February 2021 at St Mary’s Stadium-Kitende. Reads a statement from the UPL secretariat.
“The Panel annulled the red card shown to Ochan Derrick due to the wrong call made by the Assistant Referee 2. Therefore, the said player is eligible to play for Police FC.”
After the decision, Ochan is now eligible to face Onduparaka today (Wednesday) in a UPL game.
Police FC will be hosting the Caterpillars at Lugogo at 4pm as they bid to bounce back from the loss to Vipers last Friday.
