Odong brace lifts Police past Onduparaka FC at Lugogo

Uganda Premier League
Police FC 3-1 Onduparaka FC
MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
Wednesday, 23-02-2021

Johnson Odong scored once in each half as Police FC powered past Onduparaka FC 3-1 at Lugogo on Wednesday afternoon.

The in-form forward who came into the game with two goals in his last three games, opened the scoring on 25 minutes, dispatching a penalty after Akoch Augustine handled in the area.

His second came five minutes from time, poking home from close range after he was set-up by the energetic Brian Mululi.

Sandwiched in between Odong’s brace, Onduparaka had equalised before Eric Ssenjobe restored the Cops’ lead.

Eight minutes after the break, Okech Emmanuel dribbled past five Police players before slotting in past Tom Ikara for what is arguably the goal of the season, so far.

Ssenjobe’s then scored Police’s second via an overhead kick off a lose ball after Onduparaka goalkeeper Michael Kagiri poorly fisted the ball from a corner into the left-back’s path. It was Ssenjobe’s second goal in as many games after scoring against Vipers last time out.

The victory sees Police bounce back from a demoralizing loss to Vipers last week, one that saw them have custodian Derrick Ochan wrongly sent off for handling outside his area.

The three points elevate Abdallah Mubiru’s side into second spot, level on points with Express FC (19) but with a better goal difference.

For Onduparaka, who lost their first game since match-day two, they drop into 7th position with 15 points from nine games.
