Matsiko Brace Salvages Unlikely Point Against MYDA FC

Uganda Premier League
Wakiso Giants FC 2-2 MYDA FC
Wakiso Resource Centre, Wakisshia

Tom Matsiko came off the bench to score twice as Wakiso Giants FC came from behind to draw 2-2 with MYDA FC on Tuesday.

The midfielder who replaced Amos Muwonge at the start of the second half netted from the spot and added another in additional time to ensure his side take home a penalty.

It is a point earned for the hosts who for large periods looked beaten by a side that arrived at the venue after the slated 4pm kick off time.

MYDA came into the game with just a single point from 10 games and after kick off was delayed for 30 minutes as they arrived late and were not afforded time to warm up, many must have thought it would be an easy win for the Purple Sharks.

That was not the case from the on-set with the Tororo based side starting brightly and looked more composed on the ball.

Despite conceding the first chance as Vianne Ssekajugo failed to find the target from a Joshua Lubwama free kick, MYDA took the lead.

Ahmed Hussein Saleh picked a lose ball outside the area before sending a fierce drive into the top corner.

Saleh made it 2-0 with five minutes to halftime, pouncing on Derrick Emukule’s weak clearance to score in an empty net from just inside the area.

With Wakiso not creating enough, they looked like a side that had conceded defeat by the break but Matsiko who was part of three players who were brought on at the start of the second half, had other ideas.

With 16 minutes to play, another substitute-Pius Kaggwa was brought down in the area and Matsiko slotted home on the second attempt after his first was disallowed by the referees after players entered the box before the kick was taken.

After firing two efforts over, the former Vipers SC and KCCA player then collected from Muwadda Mawejje before shooting low into the bottom right corner for the equaliser deep into the two add-on minutes.

Earlier, Wakiso had failed to utilize some of their chances as Joshua Lubwama saw a free kick tipped over, Ssekajugo twice missed from good positions, Kipson Atuhaire was denied by Amos Etojo’s last ditch piece of defending and Owen Kasule shot over from just outside the area.

MYDA must feel it is three precious points dropped in a game they could have made safe before Wakiso scored the first of their two goals.

Amos Kirya made a telling run into the box, a few minutes after the break, but was foiled by Emmukule and the pacey forward then failed to hit the target after he was played through on goal.

The result leaves Wakiso in 11th with 12 points while MYDA climb off the bottom and now sit 15th with two points from 11 games.

In their next fixtures, MYDA are at home to Kitara FC on Friday while Wakiso are away to BUL FC the following day.
