UPDF FC beat Express 1-0 in a game played at the Bombo Barracks as the Red Eagle’s unbeaten run came to an end.
Forward Alex Kitatta scored the all important goal for the hosts inside the opening 17 minutes of play, heading home from Isa Mubiru’s corner.
Eric Kambale had his header sail wide off a Geoffrey Lwesibawa cross as Express FC pushed for an early goal.
Kambale then had his effort denied on two occasions by defender Vuni Joseph and goalkeeper Eric Kibowa in quick succession.
UPDF had a chance to make it 2-0 but forward Brian Kalumba failed to hit the target off a long pass from Ibrahim Thembo.
Express FC came close to equalizing only to be denied by the crossbar from a Mahad Kakooza strike from just outside the box.
Midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba had his effort go wide off a lose ball from UPDF goalkeeper Eric Kibowa.
Kambale then sent a free kick, just outside the area, wide out after a foul on Mutyaba.
As Express searched for a leveller, Musa Eseru nearly made the points safe for the hosts only for Muwanga to pull of a decent save to deny the forward.
The loss denies Express the chance to retain top spot after URA FC beat Police FC with the Tax Collectors moving top instead.
Express fc are now second on the table with 28 points. UPDF on the other hand climb into 6th on 21 points from 13 games played.
After match-day 13, Express hosts Kyetume FC while UPDF FC play away to MYDA FC.
