Uganda Premier League
Express FC 0-0 Kyetume FC
Betway Mutessa II Stadium, Wankulukuku
Express FC missed out on the chance to close in on the top two as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Kyetume FC on Saturday.
The Red Eagles who started the day just two points behind both URA FC and Vipers SC, could not break down a Kyetume side that clearly came looking for just a point.
Godfrey Lwesibawa skied a free kick in the early exchanges before the winger saw an effort tipped over for just a corner by Kyetume Custodian Joel Mutakubwa.
Eric Kambala had two chances to steal it for the Red Eagles but first, sent an overhead kick wide before forcing Mutakubwa into an angled smart save.
The visitors rarely asked Express questions at the other end with veteran striker Robert Ssentongo the more lively of the visitors forwards but not even him could construct much to trouble Mathais Muwanga in-between the host’s goal posts.
In the end, the two sides had to settle for just a point, one Express skipper Enock Walusimbi is somehow happy with.
“I am happy we have got a point at home. Walusimbi said in his post-match interview.
“It has been a tough game as Kyetume came to get a point and got it.
“We shall go with the point and concentrate on the upcoming game which is our last game in the first round.
“We have to now concentrate on the scoring bit and i am sure we will score more in the coming game.”
The draw leaves Express in 3rd position with 29 points, four behind leaders URA who beat Vipers 2-1 on the same day.
For Kyetume, they stay in 13th with 12 points from 14 games so far.
In their next fixtures, Express are away to Police FC on Wednesday while Kyetume hosts MYDA FC the following day.
