Uganda Premier League
Police FC 0-1 Express FC
MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
Tuesday, February 16
Eric Kambale was the hero as Express FC beat Police FC 1-0 at Lugogo on Tuesday.
The forward scored with just seven minutes left on the clock, raising highest to nod home a lose ball in the area, after Police failed to deal with a Godfrey Lwesibawa corner.
It was a contest that had looked destined for a draw as both sides struggled to get going in the wet conditions but the Red Eagles somehow triumphed in the end.
Express got the best chances in the game but failed to convert on several occasions.
Midway through the first half, Police failed to deal with Godfrey Lwesibawa’s Lwesibawa’s throw-in into the area and the ball fell to Muzamir Mutyaba whose shot was charged down before Enock Walusimbi sent his rebound wide.
In a second half deprived of quality going forward, Lwesibawa found himself inside the six-yard box but somehow sent his effort onto the bar and out for just a corner.
Substitute Frank Kalanda failed to find the target while inside the area after he was set-up by Ivan Mayanja.
The Cops rarely threatened as the conditions did not favour their expansive possession based.
With a few minutes to the end, Ben Ocen was at the end of Denis Rukundo’s low cross but his first time shot sailed over.
The victory takes Express to 32 points, just a point behind leaders URA FC who face Onduparaka FC on Wednesday.
For Police, they stay in 5th with 25 points from 15 games.
