Another Uganda Cranes player has pulled out of the team’s decisive AFCON Qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Malawi.

Defender Bevis Mugabi will not make the trip to Kampala, The-SportsNation sources have learnt.

Mugabi has been out of action for Scottish Premier League side Motherwell FC since facing Hamilton on February 24 this year due to a shoulder injury.

He however started training last week but was unused substitute as Motherwell succumbed to Kilmarnock on Saturday 4-1. He has played 22 of 33 games for Motherwell this season.

His club has opted not to release him.

The lanky defender also missed the previous doubleheader against South Sudan in November last year due to the same shoulder injury.

Elvis Bwomono and Nicholas Wadada are the suitable candidates to fill Mugabi’s void.

Mugabi earned his debut in a 3-1 friendly victory over Sao Tome and was part of the Cranes squad that reached AFCON knockout in 2019 in Egypt.

It should be noted that Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru pulled out of the Cranes squad while Khalid Aucho was dismissed for misconduct.

Uganda will need a victory against Burkina Faso to improve qualification chances as they target a third straight return to AFCON finals.
