Football governing body in Africa, CAF, has disqualified CHAD from the ongoing 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations, its official.
CAF has announced the developments via their official website days prior to the penultimate games this week.
This was inevitable after Chad Sports Ministry dissolved the country’s FA recently this month. The Sports Ministry said that the FA shouldn’t organise or participate in any other national or international competition or event on behalf of Chad.
Chad were set to face Namibia and Mali in Group A on March 24 and 28th respectively, games which have consequently been canceled. Per CAF rules, Chad has lost both games 3-0.
Chad were playing in Group A alongside Mali, Guinea and Namibia. After four match days, Mali tops the group on 10 points, followed by Guinea (8 points) and Namibia (3 points). Chad were trailing the group on one point having lost three games.
Going into the last bend, Chad already had zero chance of qualifying for their first AFCON finals. They had progressed to this year’s groups after ousting Liberia 5-4 on shootouts.
It should also be remembered that Chad withdrew from 2017 AFCON Qualifiers on May 27, 2016 due to financial constraints.
