Micheal Azira says they need to focus on getting three points ahead of the AFCON qualifier game against Burkina Faso at home.
Uganda will be hosting Burkina Faso on Wednesday, March 24 at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende before playing away to Malawi in the closing group game.
The New Mexico United midfielder is part of the Cranes team that is currently training at the St. Mary’s Stadium as their gear up for the two AFCON qualifier games.
Speaking ahead of the game, Azira says a win against Burkina Faso is extremely important.
“The win against Burkina Faso is really important because it sets up everything. Azira said.
“We Know if we win this game probably we have the chance to go through.”
Azira also understands that the group is still open and he says they need to take care of the home game.
“The group is open, first of all we need to take care of the game at home then Malawi will take care of itself.
“At the end of it all, we need to focus on us, focus as a team, focus on how we play, how to get the three points and execute the job here at home.”
On being called for National duty, Azira says it’s always up to the coach’s decision before adding he is happy to represent the Nation.
“I have always been at home because at the end of the day you don’t control the coach’s decision and whether the coach wants you to play you play.
“I’m glad to be part of this group. I think it’s a special group, I’m a happy to be here to represent my country.”
The game against Burkina Faso is set to be played without Fans due to the global Pandemic (COVID-19) but Azira says they just need to focus and play.
“Much as we want fans there, at the end of the day we know there is a pandemic. We just need to focus and play I Know fans will be watching on TV all over the country.”
Azira was part of the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.
The Cranes sit second in group B with 7 points, one behind leaders Burkina Faso with Malawi and South Sudan having 4 and 3 points respectively.
Uganda only requires two draws to seal qualification to the AFCON finals.
