The FUFA Big League finally gets underway after a year-wait.

The second tier of Uganda Football League system was halted last year due to Covid19 and later the playoffs were played at Njeru under a bubble.

The kickoff for the new season has been postponed on various occasions and a recent fixture draft had set the tentative kickoff date for the season kickoff on 18th March 2021 before it was pushed for another week.

This season will be played under strict observance of Covid19; Clubs will have to carry out mandatory Covid Tests for players and technical team while hosting of fans shall be granted upon written request but subject to approval by FUFA.

As it was the case in the past, the league has been divided into two groups – Rwenzori and Elgon.

The league will be played under gwo rounds (home and away format) with the top two promoted to UPL automatically before number 3 to 6 engage in playoffs to determine the remaining slot.

Gaddafi Seek To Get Off The Mark

Money bags Gaddafi FC will seek to get off to a perfect start in their debut season in FUFA Big League.

The Eastern region side beat North Eastern region champions Sansiro to storm the FUFA Big League after winning the promotional playoff at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru thanks to goals from Patrick Asiku, Mark Bamukyaaye and Ronald Bithum Nsumbiano.

They have beefed up their squad since, with Uganda Cranes player and former Busoga United FC striker Joel Madondo the marquee signing at the club.

Ahead of their Matchday one fixture against Mbale Heroes, Gaddafi FC coach Frank Ssebagala said: “We know nothing about them, we have never played against them, but the first minutes of the game will determine what we will do after watching them play and will adjust accordingly.”

Gaddafi captain Pascal Ngobi says that his comrades are in good shape and have prepared well for the league opener and season at large.

Mbale Heroes, who merged with Kiboga Young FC, missed out on a place in the Uganda Premier League when they lost their playoff final to Kitara FC courtesy of Brian Muluri goal.

They now have to do it all over again.
