Injury Scares Derail Cranes Preparations  For Malawi Showdown

A stroke of bad luck with injuries has seemingly reached worrying levels at the Cranes camp after news that striker Fahad Bayo’s strained hamstring has all but side-lined him out of Uganda Cranes’ decisive away game against Malawi on Monday.

The towering striker was on the fringes for the entirety of Friday’s training session, and reliable reports indicate that that he is disabled for the Malawi do-or-die game.

The Israeli based striker had a lively second half cameo after replacing injured Patrick Kaddu in the Uganda’s penultimate group game against Burkina Faso on Wednesday.

The game ended goalless to put Uganda’s hopes of qualifying for the biennial Afcon finals in jeopardy.

It is believed that Bayo aggravated a slight injury he was nursing in the warm ups before kick off of the Burkina Faso game.

Winger Abdul Lumala’s fitness is also proving to be a debilitating headache to National team selectors as the pacey winger didn’t train with the rest of the team on Friday.

Allan Kyambade and Murshid Jjuuko were also doing personal drills on pitch side but their issues are said to be precautionary.

South End right back Elivs Bwomono has since jetted back to UK while injured Timothy Awany was a no-show once again leaving the squad further depleted.

The ghosts that have haunted Cranes’ striking options started when UK based striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru pulled out of the initial 31-man squad that was summoned by Coach Abudallah Mubiru.

With Bayo’s injury coming at the back of Kaddu’s, the dire situation has struck a huge dent in coach Abudallah Mubiru ‘s preparations ahead of a decisive game against Malawi.

Uganda Cranes need to avoid defeat in the Blantyre shootout to book a ticket for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Coach Abudallah Mubiru and Cranes technical team have to chart a way forward of how they will leave Malawi unscathed with the available options.

Emmanuel Okwi’s versatility that can enable him play across the front line should be surely food for thought for national team selectors.

Vipers SC ‘s Yunus Ssetamu whose form in the Uganda Premier League has been impressive and can be counted on to lead the line if need be While South African based Daniel Isiagi is the other striker that can be relied on.

Uganda Cranes are expected to fly out on Sunday Morning to Blantyre using one of Uganda’s Bombadiers that was chartered for their flight.
