Betway Power coach Arnold ‘Mchuda’ Lando says that the team needs a new face and direction going into the new NBL season.
The sleeping giants have an entirely new squad after offloading a couple of long serving players including Joseph Ikong and Paul Odong.
The new looking Power will open their season on April 17 against KIU Titans as Basketball returns for the first time since last year.
“Its good to be back and to be able to nourish this great sport of Basketball and also working with players and the different stakeholders,” Mchuda said.
The club signed Elvis Ssentongo from Rez Life, Gauthier Badhera from Ndejje, Stephen Wundi (South Sudan) among others.
“We are still work in progress and we believe by the time the Season starts we will be good to go,” he added.
“We needed a new face and direction for the team in order to foster the club image, goals and objectives as they used to and also to be able to represent our sponsors well.
“We also need to develop young talent, which had been taken for granted for a while, who will grow knowing and understanding our goals and objectives as a club instead of having players in and out season in and out.”
Despite the lack of quality in depth, Mchuda believes that his side has the capacity to make the playoffs and semi-finals as well “because of the strong hearts, mental capacity and the zeal to want to learn and achieve.”
The five time champions have been City Oilers closest competitors having lost the 2016 and 2018 finals to the seven time winners, but are likely to go below the pecking order.
They lost to UCU Canons in the best of five semis in the 2019 NBL playoffs and it remains to be seen if they can defy odds this time round in the shortened season.
