The Football Association of Malawi has declared Cranes midfielder Tadeo Lwanga positive for COVID-19.
This was through results from their COVID-19 Laboratory tests taken from the Ugandan players hours before the two nations meet in their final AFCON Qualifier on Monday, March 29.
This is contrary to the results from the Uganda camp which clearly indicate that the Simba FC player is negative.
The Federation of Uganda football Association has come out and refuted the positive-claims and also requested CAF to consider results from the SADC Accredited Laboratory which has negative results of the player and the rest of the Cranes squad.
It remains to be seen how this will pave out just hours to the crucial game and whether Lwanga will be able to play.
The former SC Villa, Express FC and Vipers SC player put out a stellar performance as Uganda drew 0-0 with Burkina Faso on Wednesday and he is expected to be a key figure as the Cranes attempt to seal qualification to the finals in Cameroon early next year.
Uganda needs just a point to ensure they reach a third successive AFCON tournament after doing so in 2017 and 2019.
For Malawi, they require victory to return to the finals for a first time since 2010.
The Cranes start the day in second position in group B with 8 points from five games while Malawi are on seven (points).
