Zzana Boxing Club has bought a new home thanks to incoming chairman Steven Mugalu Ssembuya.
Ssembuya unveiled the new home in Lufuka to the media and boxers present on Tuesday.
He confirmed that the new house will be refurbished and will also accommodate a gym.
Ssembuya who doubles as the CEO of Pink Foods Uganda LTD, said: “We have produced some of the best stars in the past but under poor conditions, the boys have been training at a football pitch near trenches and when it rains, there is no training.”
“When the executive accepted me to be the new chairman, I thought it wise to put in place a home where we can have privacy, gym, hold lessons to nurture champions for the country.
“I asked the team to identify the place where they will be comfortable and this is where they have zeroed down to. Its fully paid for and renovations will start next week.”
Zzana Boxing Club houses over 80 boxers.
Renown star Shafic Kiwanuka who recently turned pro, has commended Mugalu for the timely intervention.
“I am happy for the boys, this is a big chance for everyone, this will help me and the boys to sharpen,” Kiwanuka stated.
The Club was formed in 1993 and has moulded stars like Joshua Male, Latib Muwonge, Bukenya Naser etc.
Coach Abu Mukiibi briefly noted: “Zzana is the team I played for before becoming a coach, but we have never had this (home) before, its the first of its kind. This is a very good start for Mr Ssembuya’s chairmanship.
“He promised and we are happy that he has delivered. This gym will help me groom more champions. We have been struggling, and this has given me more hope to even night sessions.
