KCCA Leopards Squad Revealed, Mavita Targets Title

KCCA Leopards will be targeting a championship this year as the National Basketball League tips off on April 17.

The four-time champions have not tasted league triumph for the last five seasons.

Formed in 2004, they won the league title in 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2014.

“Every team is playing to win the championship every year,” noted coach Ali Mavita.

They were eliminated by UCU Lady Canons 3-1 in the best of five the semis in the 2019 season.

The side has notably added Gazelles star Claire Lamunu who returns to the team since she left in 2014 for a Basketball scholarship in USA.

Mavita is excited about Lamunu’s addition: “Lamunu brings expertise and great leadership skills. She fits well into the team and we look forward to doing great things with her.”

They have also bolstered their squad with the addition Angellah Namirimu who won two back-to-back league titles with JKL Lady Dolphins.

Ruth Atuheire joins from A1 Challenge while Suzan Becca Aanyau is the other big addition from Nkumba Lady Marines.

The club will however start the season without Martha Soigi due to maternal issues.

The team will bank on the creativity of stylish guard Cynthia Irakunda when they get their season underway against JKL Lady Dolphins on April 17 at KIU court.

Full Squad – Lamunu Claire, Awor Leticia, Wasagali Alicia, Sylvia Nakazibwe, Asinah Kabendele, Judith Ayo Nansobya, Sharom Muwanguzi, Sandrah Asiimwe, Joy Chemutai, Cynthia Irakunda, Angellah Namirimu, Leanne Nalunkuma, Suzan Becca Aanyau, Martha Soigi, Atuheire Ruth.
