Congolese forward Caesar Manzoki scored a double as Vipers picked a 3-0 victory against the Army side UPDF.
Paul Mucureezi scored the opener to set the tone that propelled Fred Kajoba’s charges to the top above URA FC who come into action on Saturday.
The match was balanced in the opening minutes as both sides were sitting deep with limited chances.
Vipers later settled in the game and they tried to create some chances though the Goalkeeper was not troubled as their attempts were always blocked by the UPDF defenders.
The Venoms pressure later paid off after Ibrahim Orit header hit Sam Kintu’s hand as he attempted to clear the ball from the line for the referee to point to the spot.
Paul Mucureezi later broke the deadlock from the resultant penalty kick in the 14th minute.
UPDF through Hussein ZZinda tried to level the matters for the hosts but his effort was wide.
In the 27th minute, Manzoki doubled the visitors lead with a nice sole effort after winning the ball from UPDF defender Vuni Bright Joseph.
Robert Basangwa and Orit continued to pile more pressure on the UPDF backline.
Brian Kayanja had his header hit the post from the far post after Dickens Okwir cross at the start of second half as UPDF tried to fight back.
UPDF came into the second half more composed and threathened Vipers defense but substitute Rashid Toha was too tall for their crosses.
Dickens Okwir hit a tame cross that was easily saved by Vipers goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora.
In the 81st minute, Manzoki completed his double after raising high to meet substitute Abraham Ndugwa’s cross with a well timed header.
The forward, Manzoki, scooped the pilsner man of the match award.

What Next For Both Sides
- UPDF will be back in action with a Stanbic Cup double header against Arua Hill SC at Barifa ground Arua on Wednesday 7th April before hosting them at Bombo Military Stadium on 11th April.
In the Startimes Uganda Premier League, UPDF will travel away to Police FC on Wednesday 14th April.
- Vipers SC next three games will all be against Busoga United in the Stanbic Uganda Cup and Startimes Uganda Premier League. On Monday 5th April, they will host Busoga United in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup before facing them away on Friday 9th April. The Venoms will again play the same opponents in the Startimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday 13th April.
