Uganda Rugby Cranes finished bottom of their group after losing three from as many games on the opening day of the Emirates Invitational 7s tournament.

The team lost 38-14 in the opener against Argentina; Philip and Michael scored a try each, the former made two conversions in the losing effort.

Norbert Okeny put Uganda in the lead against Japan before the side recovered to win 40-00.

In the last game, Philip Wokorach and Okeny scored a try each and Joseph Aredo split the uprights as the side lost 19-12 in a closely contested game.

Uganda finish bottom of the Red Pool with three points, a group that was topped by Argentina.

Consequently, Uganda will face France in the final match of the quarterfinals. France topped Blue group.

The Emirates Invitational 7s is a competitive training camp including two tournament weekends for a number of the best rugby sevens teams in the world.

The tourney is a preparation event in advance of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Its being played back-to-back weekends April 2-3 and April 8-9 at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai.
